Background/IRC Summary:
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) works with people forced to flee from war, conflict, and disaster and the host communities which support them, as well as those who remain within their homes and communities. We improve outcomes in the areas of health, safety, economic wellbeing, education, and power. Given the disparity faced by women and girls, we specifically seek to narrow inequalities in the outcomes we seek and to ensure that they are achieved equally to men and boys.
Women and girls face systematic violence and discrimination that hinder them from being safe, healthy, educated, economically well, and from holding and exercising power. The IRC has made a commitment to support gender equality across its programs and operations. As part of this commitment, the IRC is developing a new Gender Equality Team that will lead all aspects of this integration of gender equality principles into IRC programming worldwide as well as its internal operations.
Job Overview/Summary:
The Gender Equality (GE) Intern will serve as a key source of support to the Regional Gender Equality Advisor. In this role, he or she will be responsible for writing and editing communications material, supporting the technical advisement of gender champions. She or he sill, coordinate knowledge management and, best-practices generation, tracking and measuring successes for gender equality at the IRC. The GE Intern will work directly with the West Africa Regional gender equality Advisor, who will work to building on the GE Intern’s individual strengths when identifying work responsibilities. The intern will benefit from the IRC Cameroun HR and Admin coordinator support to facilitate his/her integration as well as coordinating her /his support to IRC Cameroun team.
Learning Objectives:Learn how to put gender equality concepts into practice by supporting the development of program and communication materials.Learn methodologies for the integration of gender equality in organizational operations and IRC programs.Learn how a large international humanitarian organization operates and runs organizational change.Major Responsibilities:Support the Writing, editing, and updates of internal communications about gender equality at the IRC.Support Updating and adaptation of training and orientation material to the West African countries context.Maintain tracking system of GE champions and W@W groups activity across the region and contribute to their visibility region.Maintain tracking system and document on initiatives for GAP implementation across IRC country offices.Provide support in the daily activities of the GE Team.Support IRC Cameroun Daily GE activities such as training and mentoring to Gender Equality Champions; support to programmatic staff on conducting gender analysis.Key Working Relationships:Position Reports to: Regional gender advisor, Gender Equality UnitDuration of internship: 03 months renewable
Qualification
Education: Current or graduate student studying: social science, development studies, or communication, preferably with concentration or keen interest in gender or women’s studies.Work Experience: 1-2 years of experience in the humanitarian, resettlement, or development sectors with an understanding of gender equality integration development organization or programming.
